Wyndham City Council Map

The Wyndham City Council is undergoing a significant electoral restructure, moving from its current system to a new model with 11 single-councillor wards. This change will be implemented for the October 2024 local council elections, with the goal of improving representation and allowing councillors to better address their constituents' specific needs. The restructuring was driven by the need for more balanced voter distribution across wards, aiming to enhance local governance and accountability.

The new wards have been named Bemin, Brinbeal, Cheetham, Featherbrook, Grange, Heathdale, Iramoo, Quandong, Werribee Park, Williams Landing, and Wimba. Each ward will be represented by one councillor, fostering closer connections between elected officials and their communities. This approach aligns with fair representation principles and addresses Wyndham's growing and changing population.

The new structure is expected to boost community engagement in local governance. With councillors focused on specific wards, there's potential for more targeted responses to local issues, ranging from infrastructure to community services. This change reflects a commitment to giving all residents a voice in local government, strengthening Wyndham's democratic process. As the council prepares for the upcoming elections, this new ward system will be crucial in shaping the future of local governance in the region.
